I am a bit of a keyboard nerd. Earlier this year when I did my Marie Kondo impression and decluttered my computer junk, I had several keyboards I sold. I was in the market for a new main keyboard now that I keep a PC in the living room and that PC’s previous keyboard is a loud clicking RGB gaming keyboard. There was nothing really wrong with it, but I had two issues with the experience. The first issue was It’s just plain loud. The second, and much more annoying issue was the backlighting. Regularly the lighting would go into sleep mode and not wake up in dim lighting. I had to start typing before I could see anything on the keyboard.

I decided to go with the Mechanical Mini. It’s still backlit, but the keys aren’t black when there is dim lighting so they are still easy to see. The previous one had clear letters that turned black on black keys when it was unlit. It’s still very tactile and a great typing experience, but it’s much quieter and I am not constantly annoyed by having a black hole where my keyboard goes.

I will probably stick with the Logitech keyboards and mice for awhile. Being able to use plain Bluetooth and have them paired to a desktop, laptop and iPad is great. I rarely need a keyboard on the iPad, but the other day I had to manually delete a lot of devices from the Amazon Alexa platform, and having a keyboard and mouse made it tolerable.
