First I’d like to get out of the way that this is a gadget that I have displayed insane self control not buying before now. Maybe it was the movie Predator. I’m not sure why I have always thought thermal cameras are the coolest thing, but I am sure why I have never bought one before…cost. I’m a pretty gadget budget friendly guy, but with the FLIR TG-165x coming in under $300 I couldn’t resist.
It’s pretty cold here in Washington in January, so I have been wanting to make sure that we don’t have any spots leaking cold air in or letting warm air out. That’s where the FLIR worked perfectly.

This is a thermal image of the bookshelf in our living room. I just finished adding a lot of insulation around here because it was a huge air leak I wasn’t aware of. I don’t stand there so I just never noticed. Take a look at the back door.

Clearly I need to replace some door trim stripping and look at the bottom seal of this door.
Finally a little testing is needed…
