What is this blog even for?

It’s been many years since I updated my personal blog, but now seems like a great time. In November, I decided that I didn’t feel invested or challenged by my career and after a few re-orgs and reboots on my priorities, I decided it was a good time to take a break and re-calibrate what my next challenge would be. My focus is on fit, and I’m willing to take time to find something that stokes the fire of creativity in me.

In the meantime, I’ve got a few hobbies that deserve an outlet. I’ve decided to pick the blog back up and use it to share the progress of projects around the homestead, my adventures in home automation, and my newfound passion for birding.

Most people might be surprised that we have a garden, chickens, a pasture and a tractor. When COVD-19 hit, we were both already working remotely and had decided we wanted to keep it that way. Instead of buying a little house on a little lot around Seattle, we went about an hour and a half South and found 5-acres of park-like atmosphere with a view of Mount Rainier.

Home Automation is a huge passion of mine and I’m really proud of the system I’ve put together. The focus is on convenience, security and safety. I’ll provide more detail in future posts, but be sured that if it can be connected, I’ve connected it; even if sometimes by duct tape and paper clips.

The last one also aligns with the other two. We have an amazing diversity of wildlife here and photographing them is fun, but birds have become my favorite. I’ve taken on the challenge to photograph all of the birds species in the Pacific Northwest and this is a great place to share those photos.

That’s it. I might share a thing or two out of those spaces from time to time, but this isn’t for anything else. That is my mission statement, and I hope you enjoy!
